MediaSmarts is a Canadian organization that develops digital and media literacy programs for adults and students. In addition to free resources and lesson plans, MediaSmarts also offers professional development workshops for educators that focus on making good choices about privacy, ethics, safety, and verifying information when using digital media. |
Media Smarts' Digital Literacy Training
The Digital Literacy Training Workshops from MediaSmarts provides Canadian educators with digital literacy fundamentals, a framework for teaching digital literacy skills in classrooms, and a classroom guide on how to integrate digital literacy into classroom practice. They offer materials and guides for three versions of the workshop: one for primary/intermediate teachers, one for intermediate/high school teachers, and one for mixed grade groups. All for free! |

Be Internet Awesome
Google and iKeepSafe paired up to bring educators a series of lesson plans that teach about digital safety fundamentals to students. The Be Internet Awesome curriculum has been ISTE recognized and designed for students in Grades 2-6. Organized around five digital safety topics, the lessons are also reinforced by gamification techniques using an online game called Interland. Serious fun! |
Common Sense Media's Digital Citizenship Curriculum
This is a must resource for K-12 educators. Engaging. relevant, and necessary curriculum to help students learn the skills and dispositions required for our digital lives. The curriculum is organized by grade and around six topics: Media Balance and Well-being; Privacy and Security; Digital Footprint and Identity; Relationships and Communication; Cyberbullying; and News and Media Literacy. |
